The Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations (FEAPO), announce that a collaborative of global industry associations and professional societies have crafted the first set of Architecture genre definitions.
Washington, DC, June 07, 2017 — The Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations (FEAPO) announces that a collaborative of global industry associations and professional societies has crafted the first set of Architecture genre definitions.
For the first time, a large consortium of professional organizations collaborated to publish Architecture genre definitions. This important work was performed by the FEAPO Taxonomy Work Group and included the Business Architecture Guild®, Business Architecture Society (BAS), Data Management Association International (DAMA), International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) and Center for Advancement of Enterprise Architecture Profession (CAEAP).
The goal was to establish a genre of definitions enabling more effective communication among FEAPO members and industry practitioners in a wide range of solutions focused on application architecture, business architecture, data architecture, enterprise architecture, and technical architecture. Collectively these definitions provide an integrated frame of reference for practitioners across disciplines associated with enterprise architecture.
“We are very excited to provide these 5 architecture genre definitions,” said Jean Gehring, President of FEAPO. “A large portion of our role as architects is to translate the essence of the organization and its strategy into the architecture. These definitions provide a beginning to establishing a common language and promoting more effective communication within our architect community.”
“Effective communication is essential for the success of any enterprise architecture practitioner,” said Richard Martin, Co-chair of the FEAPO Taxonomy Work Group. “Too often we talk past each other or fail to comprehend the meaning of each other’s statements because our frame of reference for the domain specific or organization specific terminology does not match sufficiently. This work identifies a common meaning and terminology so that our member organization participants are better able to move the profession of enterprise architecture forward across domains of practice and form the basis for common understanding of the many aspects of enterprise architecture.”
The Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations (www.FEAPO.org) is a non-profit association of professional organizations who has an active interest in the practice and professionalism of Enterprise Architecture. FEAPO’s purpose is to facilitate and encourage Architecture communities to undertake activities to standardize, professionalize, and advance the field and discipline.
