The NAF (Netherlands Architecture Forum) organisation has initiated a workgroup to further investigate the impact of IIoET on the Enterprise Architecture. The IIoET workgroup will focus on the following 5 topics;

1 The IIoET business architecture

Many companies are experimenting with new IIoET use cases and determine the associated potential profitability. The traditional companies will need to rethink how it treats customers, making concessions to the operating model and change their value propositions within the business models. The most popular IIoET use cases are around connected; assets (predictive maintenance), products (vending machines), fleets (logistic optimization), infrastructure (energy grids), markets (parking tracking) and people (patient monitoring).

2 The IIoET applications and integration platform

The different kind of IIoET applications will serve different companies in different ways. What are these IIoET applications and how will they be integrated into the integration platform. How will the IIoET applications be integrated into the existing hybrid application landscape to create the required synergy. Customers are becoming more aware that data is captured and analyzed throughout the buyer journey. The security, privacy of the data is essential to maintain the relationships with the customers.

3 IIoET EIM (Enterprise Information Management)

As companies continue to collect more data from a variety of sources, the EIM function must integrate the IIoET data on the devices, the data sources, and application data across the entire IIoET data stream and E2E value chain. With the help of advanced analytics, decision makers can dig deep into this IIoET data and gain insight never before thought possible. The real difficulty lies in how to manage the data architecture within this hyper connected world and allow the information to be distributed across the M2M gateways, IIoET network eco-systems, ICT infrastructure and avoid data silos.

4 IIoET BIM (Business Information Management)

The new IIoET applications will change the operating policies and the operations of the existing E2E business processes (BPM). The ITSM organization should provide new services for IIoET Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). The IIoET applications should be integrated into the Enterprise Architecture in order to continuously rationalize the IIoET application portfolio.

5 IIoET Transformation Program management

The IIoET transformation program management organization is responsible for the IIoET project portfolio and the logistical and financial planning. The IIoET program management is also responsible for the IIoET methodology and monitoring of quality standards. The business transformation program must be aligned with the stakeholders to monitor the IIoET business case and to assure the success of the IIoET program.

The IIoET workgroup is looking for NAF members who are willing to participate in one or more of these topics and prepare one of the 5 presentations, which will be presented during the LAC congress in November.

The technology is enabling organizations to analyze data and perform algorithms on a bigger scale.

Customers expect products to add value in the form of convenience, reliability, privacy, or efficiency. Many companies are finding new and profitable revenue streams in the form of value-add services. This is disrupting traditional business models and creates new areas of revenue opportunity.
